KVS Eligibility Criteria 2025, Age Limit, Post-wise Qualification

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has released the notice announcing around 8977 vacancies for Principal, TGT, PGT, PRT, Vice Principal, and other non-teaching posts. As the registration process will start soon, interested candidates must check the eligibility criteria for each post before the commencement of the application process. KVS Eligibility Criteria 2025

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) recruitment 2025 offers a great opportunity for those who want to teach in government schools. Before reapplying, it is important to understand the eligibility criteria for PGT, TGT or others. This includes the age limit, educational qualifications, nationality, attempts, and other requirements that must be met to be considered for these teaching posts.

KVS Age Limit 2025

The maximum age limit is different from one another depending upon post they have applied for. Also, there is a relaxation for the candidates for different categories as per the government norms. The age relaxation can range from 5 to 15 years as per the category, such as SC/ST, OBC, PwD, etc.

KVS Educational Qualifications for PGT

“PGT” stands for Post Graduate Teachers who have completed their postgraduate studies and are qualified to teach classes 11th and 12th. The post-graduation subjects are provided below in the table below.

PGT (Commerce) Master’s Degree in Commerce. However, holders of a Degree of M.Com in Applied/Business Economics are not eligible.
PGT (Maths) Mathematics/Applied Mathematics
PGT (Chemistry) Chemistry/Biochemistry
PGT (Economics) Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics
PGT (History) History
PGT (Biology) Botany/Zoology/Life Science/Bio Sciences/Genetics/Microbiology/Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Plant Physiology, provided they have studied Botany and Zoology at graduation.
PGT (Geography) Geography
PGT (Bio-Technology) Essential:

  • At least 50% marks in aggregate in any of the following: Master’s Degree in Biotechnology/Genetics/Microbiology/Life Science/Bioscience/Biochemistry
  • Proficiency in teaching Hindi and English.
PGT (Computer Science) Essential: Candidates must have one of the following qualifications: At least 50% marks in aggregate in any of the following:

  • B.E. or B.Tech. (Computer Science/ IT) from a recognized University or equivalent Degree or Diploma from an institution/ university recognised by the Govt of India.
  • M.Sc. (Computer Science)/ MCA or Equivalent from a recognized University.
  • B.Sc. (Computer Science) / BCA or Equivalent and Post Graduate degree in a subject from a recognized University.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Computer and a Post Graduate degree in any subject from a recognized University.
  • ‘B’ Level from DOEACC and a Post Graduate degree in any Subject.
  • ‘C’ Level from `DOEACC’ Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and Graduation.
  • Proficiency in teaching Hindi and English.
  • B.E. or B.Tech. (any stream) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Computers from a recognized University

KVS Educational Qualifications for TGT

To become a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), candidates are required to meet certain educational qualifications which are mentioned below in the table. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in the subject they want to teach. Also, you must complete a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree and candidates must clear the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper-II or an equivalent State Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).

TGT(English) Candidates must have studied English as a subject in all three years of their bachelor’s degree.
TGT(P & HE) Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or an equivalent qualification.
TGT(AE) Candidates must have a five-year recognized diploma in drawing and painting, sculpture, or Graphic Art.
TGT(Science) Candidates must have studied Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry in their bachelor’s degree.
TGT(Sanskrit) Candidates must have studied Sanskrit as a subject in all three years of their bachelor’s degree.
TGT(Hindi) Candidates must have studied Hindi as a subject in all three years of their bachelor’s degree.
TGT(SST) Candidates must have studied any two of the following subjects: History, Geography, Economics, and Political Science. One of the two subjects must be either History or Geography.
TGT(Maths) Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science, or Statistics.
TGT(WE) Essential: Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from a recognized university.
  • A graduate degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from a recognized university.
  • A three-year diploma after higher secondary in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from a recognized university.

KVS Educational Qualification for PRT

A PRT refers to the Primary Teacher who specializes in teaching students studying in classes one to five. These teachers lay the foundation for the students by teaching basic subjects as Maths, Language, Science and and use various teaching methods to make learning easy. Below, we have provided the eligibility criteria for primary teachers (PRT)

  • Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • OR, Senior Secondary(or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed.)
  • OR, Senior Secondary(or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education(Special Education)
  • OR, Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)*
  • Qualified in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (Paper-I) conducted by the Govt. of India.
  • Proficiency to teach through Hindi & English media.
  • Desirable : Knowledge of working on Computer.
Primary Teacher (Music) Essential :

  • Senior Secondary School Certificate with 50% marks or Intermediate with 50% marks or its equivalent and Bachelor Degree in Music or equivalent from a recognized University.
  • Competence to teach through English\Hindi medium.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of Computer Applications.

KVS Educational Qualification for Principal

The principal is a well-reputed post and is the highest-ranking administrator who is responsible for managing all functions of school operations. The educational qualifications for the principal through the KVS is as follows.

  • Master’s Degree from a recognized university with at least 45% marks in aggregate. (ii) B.Ed or equivalent teaching degree.
  • 12 years of experience as a Vice-Principal, or PGT/Lecturer in recognised schools

Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of Computer applications.

Changes in KVS Eligibility Criteria 2025

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has announced some changes in the KVS Eligibility Criteria 2025 which are as follows

  • Increased Experience for Principal: The experience requirement for the Principal position has increased from 8 years to 12 years. Vice Principals (VPs) now need 3 years of experience.
  • Headmaster’s Age Requirement: The minimum age for the Headmaster position is now 35 years; previously, there was no age limit.
  • Reduction in LDE Seats: The percentage of LDE seats for Headmaster, PGT, and TGT has been reduced from 50% to 33.3%.
  • New Posts for Special Educators: 497 posts for TGT Special Educators and 494 posts for PRT Special Educators have been introduced for the recruitment
  • Graduation Subject for PGT: The graduation subject now applies to all subjects for PGT recruitment.
  • Reduction in Age Relaxation for KVS Employees: The age relaxation for KVS employees has been reduced to 5 years.
  • Increased Experience for VP: PGTs now need 6 years of experience to become a Vice Principal (VP).
  • B.Ed. Now Mandatory for PGT Computer Science: B.Ed. is now compulsory for PGT Computer Science candidates.
